Music Review By: @SpreadLuv

When my partner and I came up with this crazy idea to put together a live music tribute honoring Outkast’s 20th Anniversary we knew the music had to be funky. We also knew the band selected for this huge feat had to be experienced enough to connect with our guest on a soulful level. We considered a couple of bands/artists, but there was only one that stood out – Mike Hicks and The Funk Puncs.

(Artist, Writer, and Performer – Mike Hicks)

Watching the energetic, spontaneous, and passionate musicianship of Michael Hicks on stage, one would find it hard to believe that this fiery keyboardist is reserved, introverted, and even shy off stage. A native of Warner Robins, Georgia, graduate of Middle Tennessee State University’s revered Recording Industry program, and a current resident of Nashville, Tennessee, Michael brings a musical background rich in the culture of gospel music and the rhythmic stylings of soul and funk.

It’s no secret that 2013 was a big year for Mike and his band. They were honored with three Nashville Independent Music Awards in 2013 including Best R&B Male Artist, Best Album (“This Is Life”), and Best Soul/Funk Band (for the second consecutive year). Known for honesty and transparency in his delivery, Mike continues to blaze his own trail, creating his own brand of “life music” in the process.

Mike’s travels have afforded him the opportunities to play in prestigious venues including the Sydney Opera House, the Apollo Theater, and many others. On Thursday, April 10th, Mike and his Band will set the musical backdrop for our live tribute to Outkast! See poster below for details.

Be sure to check out Mike’s website for more information about his music and remember to support this young artist/musician who is bound to make music history!
